Umbilical Hernia Treatment

Expert Surgical Solutions for Belly Button Hernias in Adults and Children.

What is an Umbilical Hernia?

An umbilical hernia occurs when part of your intestine or fatty tissue pokes through a weak spot in the abdominal muscles near your belly button (umbilicus). While common in infants, in adults, these hernias do not resolve on their own and typically require surgical intervention to prevent complications.

Common Causes:
  • Obesity or sudden weight gain
  • Multiple pregnancies
  • Chronic coughing or heavy lifting
  • Previous abdominal surgeries
⚠️ Warning Signs

If you experience any of the following, seek emergency care as the hernia may be "strangulated":

  • Severe pain that increases quickly
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • The hernia bulge turns red, purple, or dark
  • Inability to push the bulge back in

Surgical Repair Options

We use the latest Mesh Technology to ensure long-term success and low recurrence rates.

Laparoscopic Repair

Also known as "Keyhole" surgery. The surgeon makes 3 tiny incisions and uses a camera to fix the hernia from the inside.

  • Faster recovery and less post-op pain
  • Smaller, cosmetic scars
  • Lower risk of wound infection
  • Ideal for recurrent hernias

Open Mesh Repair

A small incision is made near the navel to push the tissue back and reinforce the wall with a medical-grade mesh.

  • Highly effective for very large hernias
  • Can often be performed under local/spinal anesthesia
  • Cost-effective surgical solution

Recovery & Aftercare

Most patients return to light activities within 1 week. However, heavy lifting (over 5kg) and strenuous exercise should be avoided for 4–6 weeks to allow the mesh to incorporate into the tissue.

Using a mesh acts like a "scaffold." It significantly reduces the chances of the hernia coming back (recurrence) compared to just using simple stitches.
